History
Angelite is a new addition to the crystal world, the first deposit was found in Peru, near Machu Picchu in 1987. A form of gypsum, it is classified as anhydrite, from the Greek ‘anhydros’ which means without water. The opaque to translucent blue hues that characterize it mean it is often referred to as blue anhydrite. The gem is formed when water deposits around gypsum geodes dry up over the period of thousands of years.
Being a relatively new find, there is little to no history associated with the gem in writing, though its discovery is believed to have coincided with a worldwide harmonic convergence event, where members across the globe meditated to bring about peace and harmony. After its discovery in Peru, the gem has also been found in Europe and North Africa.
Medicinal & Magical Properties
Being a soft stone, it’s important to store Angelite away from abrasive surfaces – and that includes other crystals. It should also be kept away from water, else it transforms back to gypsum.
Angelite is known as ‘the gateway crystal’ and greatly aids in spiritual journeys. As is obvious from the name, the gem helps connect to the angel realm and opens up new streams of consciousness. The stone is also tied to dreams and intuition and helps dispel doubts, insecurities and fears. This is a great stone to have if one is embarking on enterprises of self-discovery and is also a positive influence on relationships with others. The simple act of holding Angelite in one’s hand while meditating can enhance the state of tranquility and peace.
Angelite also helps heal illnesses of the throat and thyroid gland along with keeping the heart healthy and in top shape.
